Because small shouldn’t be synonymous with limited
Bioconstruction is not just for large homes or rural projects. It can—and should—also be applied in small premises, where space and indoor health have even more impact on daily life.
At Ecohabitats, we design small spaces with the same logic as large ones: healthy materials, energy efficiency, breathability, and thermal comfort without artifice.
Real example: a small shop for tea lovers
In the Horta neighborhood (Barcelona), we renovated a corner shop to turn it into “Moments de Te,” a cozy corner where you can choose and savor quality infusions.
What did we do from bioconstruction?
- Work on the entry of natural light despite the closed geometry.
- Use natural wood and custom-designed furniture.
- Apply paints and coatings without toxins.
- Opt for finishes that regulate the humidity of the environment.
- Maximize every centimeter from spatial efficiency.

What is so special about a small project?
- Every decision counts: from the type of floor to the storage furniture.
- The indoor air circulates less: that is why the materials must be breathable and emission-free.
- Versatility is required: multi-purpose spaces, functional furniture, good acoustics.
- Many times there is direct contact with the street: which affects thermal comfort, noise, and safety.
Bioconstruction is not luxury, it is logic
Designing healthy spaces has nothing to do with size.
It has to do with the coherence between what is built and how one lives.
Small spaces can be healthier, more functional, and more sustainable if designed with meaning.
