When we think of healthy architecture, we usually imagine open spaces, ground floors, or detached houses. But at Ecohabitats, we believe that it is also possible to apply bioconstruction criteria at height, even in urban penthouses, attics, and apartments with pre-existing structures.
This type of project has its particularities: sloping ceilings, exposed terraces, interior patios, protected structures, or regulatory limits.
But that does not prevent the space from being comfortable, healthy, and sustainable.
Light and Ventilation as a Starting Point
One of the advantages of working at height is the greater access to natural light and direct ventilation. At Ecohabitats, we take advantage of this potential with:

In renovations at height, every technical decision counts: the weight, the compatibility with the existing structure, the resistance to solar radiation or wind.
That’s why we use materials such as:
- Iroko and other stable woods for terraces and furniture
- Breathable coatings that reduce interior humidity
- Natural insulation compatible with existing slabs
- Removable or reversible solutions when there is protected heritage

Passive Thermal Comfort, Even on the Top Floors
Penthouses are often spaces more exposed to the sun, wind, and thermal changes.
From bioconstruction, we address this with:
- Well-insulated roofs with ecological materials
- Carpentry without thermal bridges
- Natural shade (Mallorcan blinds, textile awnings, pergolas)
- Wood or natural ceramic floors with low emissivity
