This project is an example of how architecture can reclaim forgotten spaces and turn them into healthy, functional, sustainable homes. In this case, we refurbished a former nursery school that had been closed for decades, carrying out a change of use to a dwelling and a key structural intervention to adapt it to the new owner’s needs.
The design combines modern, minimalist aesthetics with the functional warmth that defines our refurbishments. Every decision, from the layout to the materials, has been carefully considered to provide comfort without compromising sustainability.
To improve the home’s thermal and acoustic performance, all exterior walls were lined with rock wool insulation, a natural, fire-resistant and durable material. Heating/cooling and domestic hot water are provided by a low-consumption air-source heat pump system, complemented by Airzone, enabling intelligent and efficient temperature control in each room.
These types of interventions not only revitalise underused urban spaces, but also promote a more conscious way of living. The transformation of this former nursery school into a comfortable, sustainable and energy-efficient home is yet another example of our commitment to eco-friendly, responsible refurbishment in Barcelona.
Rock wool is a natural, non-combustible, highly durable material that significantly improves thermal and acoustic insulation. Its use reduces energy consumption, improves comfort, and extends the building’s service life.
Unlike other materials, rock wool does not degrade over time or with moisture, offers excellent fire resistance (A1 classification), and delivers high performance in both winter and summer.
Yes, it is ideal for wall linings, ceilings and internal partitions, as it improves insulation without significantly altering the space. In addition, it is clean to install and compatible with modern construction systems.
Airzone is an intelligent climate control system that allows you to control the temperature in each room independently, optimising energy use and adapting to real day-to-day needs.
